Nepal is rich on culture and tradition and there are much to experience. Every year you have the opportunity to experience the Mani Rimdu, a 19-day festival celebrated by Buddhists in the Everest region of Nepal to mark the founding of Buddhism by Guru Rinpoche Padmasambhava. The festival starts from the first day of the tenth month of the Tibetan lunar calendar, which occurs between mid October until beginning of November. Mani Rimdu started at the Rongpuk Monastery in Tibet in the early 1900s. Nowadays, Mani Rimdu is the biggest event of the year for the Sherpas of the Khumbu region.
Magnificent shows are put up in almost all monastery in Nepal Himalaya, like the monasteries of Thame, Chiwong, Sherpa Sewa Kendra Kathmandu, Khikhurdingma Monastery in Khijidemba Okhaldhunga, Tengboche Monastery, Lukla monastery. A huge crowd of Lamas and Sherpa meet at the monastery for the welfare of the world and enjoy the festival with masked dances, prayers and feasts. The festival can preferrably be combined with other trips in the area such as treeking trips, helicopter tours or city tours.
